Job Description :

We are seeking a SQL and Data Analyst in our Chicago, IL office.  This role is a key member of our technical team delivering value to our customers, direction to our product and support for the internal team. This role requires a flexible and eager attitude with a solid knowledge of SQL and curiosity and passion to solve challenges.
We’ve highlighted the three key responsibilities in this unique role and provided a few illustrations to help translate into a real scenario.
1.  Scope, build and deliver custom reports and exports for customer projects
We have a new customer, so you join the project kick-off call to meet the customer and assess your role in the project.  This new customer has a list of items to import into the database. You would work with the project manager and customer to ensure the customer data is received in a viable format for import. Then you would complete the import, test and communicate with the customer on their testing and possible edits required.
One of our users is hosting a special event and requires custom reporting to share with their event sponsor.  You meet with the customer, listen to the requirements, and prepare a scope of works for the account manager. Once the customer accepts the quote, you investigate the data model and build the report.  You communicate back with the customer, trade a couple of back-and-forth emails and deliver the report that meets their needs.
2. Enhance our existing Enterprise Standard Reporting Suite (built on the Exago BI platform)
Our reporting platform, Exago releases a new feature so you learn about it to determine the application for our customers. You would work with the Professional Services team to design training and launch around this new feature/reports and could present them at our User’s Conference.
Centaman product releases a new feature that enables a special coupon to be redeemed online and track additional information.  This additional feature requires a new set of reports that give customers the information that they need to determine the usage and success of the various programs.  You review the release notes, assess the technical design, understand customer usage of new feature and build a new report suite into our standard reporting suite.
3. Assist customers and internal team on supporting customer data issues and requirements
The support team receives a ticket from a customer that is getting imbalanced transactions in their database. The support first investigates as best they can, and you may receive an escalation request if they get stuck.  You would provide them some tips from your SQL expertise to assist working on a solution. From this interaction, you may identify this is a good training opportunity for the rest of the team, so they can be more empowered with these types of tricky tickets in the future.
The QA team discovered that a series of reports in our Accounting suite are running slow for customers with more than 2 years’ worth of data.  You investigate the reports, conduct your own testing and then determine that an additional index will solve the issue.  You communicate the request to the development team so the solution is incorporated into the product.
Centaman is a proprietary software package built for a specific vertical market. The database engine is Microsoft SQL Server.

  • Excellent debugging and analytical skills
  • Ability to explain complex concepts
  • Ability to listen to non-technical requirements and understand what’s important to our customers to translate into a solution & communicate the solution
  • Exceptional English communication skills, both written and verbal and will work with the customer on the most efficient method of communication
  • Willingness to work with customers in other time-zones occasionally
  • Exposure to relational-based reporting tools, including Exago BI Platform
