Job Description :

The Manager of Employee Relations will manage a team of 4 Human Resource Advisors in the day to day handling of all employee relations and policy issues within the US business unit operations. The Manager will partner closely with Vice President – Human Resources in Canada, CEOs and management teams of Business Units in the US, as well as functional HR teams in North America to ensure that employee relations and policy questions and concerns are handled appropriately in a timely manner.
 
 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide leadership and day to day management and oversite of HRA’s in the US supporting US business units and contact centers. The scope of work handled by the HRA team includes:
 

  • Partnering with corporate HR and legal to ensure policy compliance and employee investigations are completed and facilitated by necessary follow through with Business Unit Leaders.
  • Ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local employment laws and regulations, experience with California law is a huge plus.
  • Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to maintain efficient and effective employee relations and services.
  • Ensures compliance with corporate policies, and state, local, and federal guidelines to protect the business and its employees.
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for integration of mergers and acquisitions within the US.
  • Motivates others to want to do their best; manages their development including individual and team goals, coaching, counselling, mentoring and planning.
  • Consulting with Business Unit Leaders on employee performance concerns and termination requests.
  • Highly proficient working with HRIS systems; knowledge of Workday is a huge asset.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate update of employee data in the Workday HRIS system to ensure appropriate administration of employee benefits, payroll, and programs.
  • Manage complex and difficult HR projects cross-functionally.
  • Supports training and development of employees and managers.
  • Engage in Employee Relations to advise/ guide leaders on difficult/complex matters
  • Builds strong business relationships with internal clients.
  • Can comfortably interact with senior management.
  • Review and recommend policy change as appropriate and ensure communication of changes are implemented, including the updating of Employee Handbooks specific to each company/organization.
  • Actively identifies gaps, proposes and implement changes necessary to cover risks.
  • Acts as the performance improvement driver and introduces positive changes in the people management.
  • Adhere to policy and procedure documentation controls.
  • Ability to work from home will require strong effectiveness in managing staff and issues remotely.
  • Willingness to travel about 20% of the year.
 
 
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Strong knowledge of local, state and federal employment laws and regulations and experience with employee relations issues
  • Knowledge of mergers and acquisitions process and HR involvement
  • Open, honest, and empathetic manner when dealing with people
  • Comfortable with change; able to make big decisions and act without having the total picture; comfortable when things are up in the air
  • Enjoys the challenge of unfamiliar tasks with the ability to quickly grasps the essence and the underlying structure of anything
  • Strong drive for results; consistently one of the top performer; steadfastly pushes self and others for results.
  • Strong attention to detail and desire to follow procedures and comfort with fast pace, change and ambiguity
  • Ability to manage and measure the work of your team, setting clear goals and objectives

  • Working knowledge of database applications such as Workday and MS Office, with high level of ability in Excel and passion for metrics based reporting and management
  • High level of integrity, honesty, and  sound judgment

  • Trusted advisor to leaders and employees in challenging situations with proven capability to build effective relationships.
  • 4-7 years of experience at Generalist level with focus on employee relations, managing multi-location facilities
  • 2-3 years of experience managing others, mentoring and coaching
 
 Preferred
  • Previous experience within software industry with high volumes of activity
  • Previous experience supporting large matrixed organizations
