Job Description :

POSITION
The Sr. System Administrator / Engineer position will report directly to the Director of Information Technology.  This position requires a hands-on, tech-savvy, experienced individual who can work effectively and independently to continue our exceptional track record of production system availability with a 24/365 99.95% SLA on our Software as a Service platform while moving the company’s infrastructure and development goals forward.  The primary focus will be the administration, enhancement, and maintenance of the company’s multiple remote production & development co-location environments.  The key skill sets include experience installing and supporting Cisco perimeter and internal networks containing the complete Microsoft stack on VMware vSphere and bare-metal servers, plus the ability to problem-solve at a high velocity.  Self-education and masterful problem-solving skills are expected in this position, however a training budget is allocated for formal continuing education and maintaining certifications.  A clear growth path is available for this position to shape and design the future architecture of our SaaS infrastructure going forward.  Some minimal VoIP and office systems support may also be required occasionally.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design for and maintain 99.95+% uptime of all Production systems first and foremost
  • Design for and maintain all systems consistent with our CyberSecurity Policies and Procedures, with all external scans and testing returning results no higher than Medium threat level
  • Setup and maintenance of all physical and virtual network infrastructure, load balancers, virtualization, SAN, bulk storage, monitoring, Active Directory, and critical Windows systems in redundant High Availability configurations
  • Install, configure, and manage changes for all data center hardware and infrastructure
  • Install, configure, and manage changes for office hardware and infrastructure when availability allows
  • Systematically track purchases, support agreements, monthly renewals, and annual renewals, for ad-hoc consumption by the Director and CEO
  • Proactively monitor and identify trends leading to potential issues (disk, CPU, RAM, network, hardware capacity, etc.) and propose solutions without prompting and with ample lead time to implement proposed solutions
  • Actively respond to employee calls and IMs when awaiting IT action, even if it is a negative or ambiguous response
  • Complete high-priority tasks within deadlines or communicating early when deadlines can not be met
  • Communicate with the Director, or in his absence the CEO, when task priorities need to be clarified or re-prioritized, AND expeditiously communicate when assistance is needed due to issues being beyond domain knowledge, skillset, or area of responsibility
  • Pay close attention to details, fulfilling all requirements in tickets unless discussed and cleared ahead of time
  • Proactively request specific training and/or education to meet goals outlined above
  • Proactively request and manage 3rd-party support and assistance required to meet above goals that are immediate in nature
  • Log weekly system checks and statistics to report to Director
  • Support, install, upgrade, and maintain
    • Cisco ASA 5500 series firewalls and Catalyst series Layer 2 & 3 hardware
    • vSphere 5.5 and higher clusters
    • Windows Server 2003 – 2016 systems
    • 60TB+ iSCSI disk arrays on 10GigE storage networks
    • KEMP LoadMaster series load balancers
    • IIS web applications
    • SSL Certificates on multiple platforms
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor of Science in a technical field (MIS, CS, Engineering or related) or 4 years of additional experience
  • Minimum 5 years of systems administration experience in Windows operating systems environment
  • Demonstrate focus, exceptional decision-making, and troubleshooting skills during outage situations in a 24/365 live production environment
  • Demonstrate skill at installing, configuring, and troubleshooting complex physical and virtual servers and networks, 98+% of the time through remote access only
  • Possess and demonstrate exceptional analytical and mental organizational skills
  • Demonstrate installation and configuration of Cisco ASA 5500 series firewalls in High Availability mode for perimeter security and VPN access
  • Demonstrate installation and configuration of Cisco Catalyst series switches and routers in High Availability configurations for internet, application, and storage traffic with VLANs and ACLs
  • Show proficiency at administration of single-domain multi-site Active Directory environments
  • Demonstrate installation and configuration of VMWare vSphere 5 and higher clusters running Windows workloads
  • Understand that making it work and collecting metrics with existing systems creates a compelling argument for adding or upgrading systems
  • Must be flexible and able to respond to infrastructure issues and alerts after hours as necessary
  • Must be available to provide scheduled services during the evening and overnight hours as necessary
Additional Skills/Experience would be an asset:
  • MS SQL Server configuration and administration (including Availability Groups)
  • Proficient in creating and modifying PowerShell scripts
  • Administering Docker / container hosts
  • Experience with Continuous Delivery in a SaaS company
